Special Ops: Altered Item

JUNQUE TRUNK

It all started with a dare....
"I bet you can get that case for 25¢."
"But what would I DO with it?"
"You know you'll think of something!"
And so I tried, and of course the price went down to 25 cents, and then they threw in more junk, and soon I was at $2 and wondering just exactly WHAT I was going to do with it all. Altering the cassette case was the obvious answer so I began with ripping off the faux leather.
Next I scrubbed of the remaining glue and used a craft knife to remove any stray bits of vinyl.
Then it was time for the fun part,
covering the case with paper.
Step 1:I chose a light, patterned paper for the center strip. I measured, cut, and adhered my paper so that I had a different strip for each surface. For this case there were 5 in all.
Step 2:For the edges I used a dark patterned paper. Again I cut the strips so that they didn't bend over the joints. When paper is used to cover the joints it tends to buckle and bulge each time the joint is bent.
Step 3:I painted along the joints where the papers meet.
Step 4:For the love of washi I added tape along the stripes of patterned paper. Washi tape has a little more give than paper so I wrapped it right over the joints.

My newly decorated Junque Trunk is a little off center and the paint isn't exact, but it has a very
SHABBY CHIC
flavor to it and will look delightful at any crop.

But why take it to a crop, you ask? Because it is actually a twine carrier! Now I can take my twine with me everywhere I go and have all my colors right at my finger tips!!!
Check this post (Thrilling Thursday) for a quick tutorial on making these twine cards.
As always my blog, Scrappin Chaos, has details on products used.

May Basic Training

Welcome to May's Basic Training!

Homemade "Water" Flowers!

If you're like me, and every other scrapbooker I know, you have so many flowers.  Sometimes, no matter how many flowers I have in my stash, I can't seem to find the "perfect" flower for my layout.  Or, if I really like the patterned paper I'm working with, I make my own flowers.  I have several different flowers I like to make.  Today I'm going to show you a very easy, pretty flower.

Supplies needed:
Flower punch or punched out flowers
Spray bottle with water in it
Adhesive
Buttons or brads
OK, Let's get started!

First you will need some cut out flowers.  I used a punch for mine.  If you don't have a punch, you can use your flower dies or cut out from your Cricut or Cameo.

Next, you will want to choose your patterned paper.  I usually use 2 different patterns, but, it is up to you.  Punch out your flowers,  2 large and 1 small.  And, you will need a spray bottle with water in it.

Next, you want to take a punched out flower and spray both sides with water.  Saturate the entire flower, and shake off the excess.  You will lay the flower down on your table and "pinch" and "push" up the petals towards the center.  If they start to come un-done, re-do it until it stays in place.  Be careful as the wet flower will rip easily.

Once you have finished all of the flowers, set them aside to dry completely.  If I am in a big hurry, I will use my heat gun (holding the flowers with a long pair of tweezers).  Once completely dry, the flowers will hold their shape.

Next, you will need your favorite adhesive.  (I usually use ultra thin large glue dots for these flowers.)  You want to stack them alternating petals.  Large on bottom and in middle and small on top.  Sometimes, I just use the two large flowers, depending on what I want to put in the middle.  But, for this flower, I used all three.

Now, you will want to find a center for your flower.  Buttons and brads work great!

That's it!  Now you have a pretty flower that will coordinate perfectly with your layout!  You could also ink the edges, mist your flower or use stickles.  If you don't like the "pinched" look, you can wad the paper, or form it in a different way.  The possibilities are endless!  Get creative with this!!!   I really hope that you will try this fun, easy technique!

Here is my layout with my homemade flowers:

We would love to see your newly created
"homemade water flower" project!
Submit a project showcasing your homemade flower element, for a chance at becoming our featured S.W.A.T. girl.  One winner will be chosen from all of the entries.  Be sure and link up your project using Mr. Linky.  Have fun, and be creative!

May's Featured S.W.A.T. Girl!

Please join us in congratulating

May's S.W.A.T. Girl!!

Lee-Anne

I am very honored to be a S.W.A.T. Girl for May 2013.
Thank you for having me!

Hi, my name is Lee-Anne Thornton and I'm known in the online scrapbooking world as Scrapperleeanne. I am married to my biggest fan Rick and have three children Brandon 28, Shannon 25, and Clayton 13. My youngest is still at home but my two older kids are married and have left the nest.

We wanted to get to know Lee-Anne so we asked her a few questions:
1. How long have you been scrapping and why do you love it?
I started scrapbooking back in 2002 when a friend of mine asked me to go to a "crop". I was a cross stitcher and didn't have the slightest idea what she was talking about. Back then, it was all about stickers but it has evolved into so much more the last few years. It really became a passion when I starting attending scrapbooking conventions, retreats and last year a scrapbooking cruise to Hawaii. It has just been the last two years that I have really taken this passion to the next level and started getting published and being on some design teams and getting to know such lovely, creative people that share the same passion.

2. What are you favorite tools and manufactures?

My three favourite tools are my Silhouette Cameo, my ATG gun and my Making Memories Paper Trimmer.....I love all the manufacturers as long as they have pretty papers.

3. How do you usually get started with a layout?

The photo is usually my starting point and I go from there. I love colour, layers and texture but most of my layouts are clean with bright colours.
Next we asked her to share a few of her
favorite projects and here they are:

Make sure you come back for Drill #7 I can't wait to see what
Lee-Anne has in store for us this Saturday!
